A few weeks ago the lovely Lori of Automatism shared this video on Twitter and I just loved it. Quentin Blake’s work was a huge part of my childhood – he and Roald Dahl made pure gold together. Really fun to listen to him chat about his work, catch a glimpse of his studio and observe a little demo. Always such a privilege to hear about someone’s process, especially when you’ve admired them for so long! Enjoy!
OMG I love him! I never even thought about who did the drawings for my favourite Roald Dahl books. What a nice old man.
Absolutely lovely. I love that he has such beautiful archives! Wonderful wonderful wonderful. So glad to have landed on this. Thank you!
Wow, what a find! I love Quentin Blake too. And he makes it looks so easy. Just messin’ around in his paintbox, not even mixing in a palette (!) not at all worried if the color is perfect, just schmears it on and volià, a great illustration. What comes through so strongly in his work is the sympathy he has for his characters and the feelings between them. That dog looks so damn happy!
I know right?! I love his messy but deliberate hand. He makes it look impossibly easy, which is a sign that it’s actually kinda hard. I love that we love this :)
