Happiness Is…

June 1st, 2012

Being on the mend. Blogs are weird – they really only show a small side of your life, and it can be hard to know how much to share. My health hadn’t been on track for months and I’d worked so hard to try and turn it around, but things continued to deteriorate – the past three months have been particularly rough. Ulcerative colitis is a pretty unforgiving disease sometimes – it requires frequent and sometimes difficult compromises. When I need to re-prioritize, I put health first, clients second, and everything else can wait: I’ve had to take a step back from my well-intentioned personal projects (I miss you, Sketch of the Week – let’s make a date for next week).

Happiness Is... Being on the mend

That being said, after three visits to the doctor and a generous menu of daily meds for the foreseeable future, I’m finally starting to feel better. My walks with Panda have gotten longer and I’ve enjoyed some really great days. Summer feels full of promise and I’m so grateful for the wonderful clients that I am fortunate enough to work with. As things slowly get back to normal, I’m looking forward to getting back to my little blog projects that I enjoy so much. Speaking of which, I helped someone with a design issue on Twitter the other day and realized that this may happen all too often for a lot of folks, so I’ve decided to start a series of design help posts – stay tuned for that to start next week. And, as per usual – have a lovely weekend, everybody!

Thank-you so much Nadia! Yes the dog walking helps a lot – just being out with Panda in the fresh air and the trees :) We moved to Hudson last summer and I really love it. Hope you have a great weekend too!

YAY! Don’t hold back, show us the rough shadow sides, too!

Thanks babe! You’re so right, it’s important to share the good and the bad. I just end up focusing on the good most of the time – for the totally selfish reason that it makes me feel good :) xo

  4. I’m so glad you’re feeling better–there’s not much worse than feeling utterly lousy and knowing you have stuff to do! Glad you’ve conquered that one by putting yourself first. My mom has ulcerative colitis, and it can be quite rough. Hang in there!!

Thank-you so much Erica! I’m so very sorry to hear that your mum has it too – can be such a tough disease. Takes a lot of patience and positive thoughts, amongst many other things. And it’s also hard on everyone who loves that person! Hoping your mum’s in good health, sending good vibes :)

Anile, sorry to hear you were so sick recently. I bet the Hudson life is great for you, and I imagine smiley, cuddly Panda helps a lot too! :) You have such a positive spirit, it’s really crappy you have to go through such tough times… Happy to hear you’re doing better. And sorry for hinting about the ‘sketch of the week’ when you were likely going through this rough patch. Take care! :)

Hi Tiffany! Thanks so much! Yeah Panda is a great help – always smiling and infinitely huggable :) Oh my gosh, don’t worry about that at all, in fact it really lifted my spirits knowing that someone was looking forward to seeing another one!! That just made me grin from ear to ear!! Thank-you for that. I hope you have a great weekend :)

I’m so sorry to hear of your health issues, Anile… it’s wonderful to hear you’re on the mend ;-)

I’ve also experienced some physical setbacks recently (back issues that are thankfully surgery- and drug-free remedied), which affected my work day tremendously (I’m also a graphic & web designer & find myself unable to sit for more than 20min at a time, which is a bit of an issue!)

Ultimately, though, it’s helped me reassess what’s important to me and make the necessary changes to incorporate this chronic change into my worklife, so you’re not alone, there!

Well done you for finding a positive outlet (in helping others in a venue you might not have, had you not been in this position)… a wonderful silver lining!

    Looking forward to more,
    Gerixx

Thanks so much Geri! Yeah health is so important eh? And it often only becomes evident when things go wrong. I try to be grateful every day for the little things that are actually big things (like breathing, haha) and it helps me a lot when I’m in bad shape. I’m glad to hear you’re doing better with your issues although wow, that kind of sitting schedule must get challenging. I hope you continue to improve and to make time to stay healthy – I promise I will, too. Sending good thoughts your way. And, silver lining, yes indeed! Appreciate you stopping by :)

    Such an honest post!

It is so wonderful to hear that you are on the mend. I know from family members and a few friends that suffer from gastrointestinal problems that it can be really hard both physically and mentally when going through a flare-up. It is inspiring to hear that you are able to maintain your positive outlook and recognise that your health is the only important thing to focus on when re-prioritising! Hope that you continue to feel increasingly better with every day. I am sure Panda is doing a great job at making you smile!

Thank-you so much Marie!! Yeah it’s worth the hard work to stay positive because otherwise it’s way harder to deal with. Like so many other things in life eh? Thanks for dropping by, and Panda says arooo!! xo
